Penylan Practice Policy regarding suspected UTls.
If you believe that you have a UTI you should contact the surgery as soon as possible.
Your call will be added to the appropriate doctors list and you will be asked to provide a urine sample. This sample should be brought to the surgery no later than 60 minutes after your call to the surgery.
On bringing the urine sample to the surgery you will be asked to complete a "Suspected Urinary Tract Infection patient questionnaire" (PDF, 376KB). This must be completed for every sample provided.
Please leave up to date contact details on the form so the GP can contact you with the outcome.
The urine sample is an important part of assessing a patient as it can help diagnose or rule out health conditions. A urine sample can be analysed for signs of infection, such as bacteria, white blood cells, or red blood cells. Without a sample and a completed questionnaire, the GP cannot accurately assess you and your symptoms.
When the GP has both the urine sample and the completed form, they will then test the urine and act accordingly.
