Telephone helpline for families needing Health Visitor advice during COVID

The Health Visitor (HV) telephone helpline is staffed by a group of experienced HV’s who will be available to provide advice and signpost parents/carers with pre-school children across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

This service will commence on Tuesday 14th of April 2020 and be available Monday to Friday from 9.00am - 5.00pm. We recognise that families will be anxious during the current COVID-19 pandemic and therefore we are ensuring that access to HV advice is readily available for all our families during this period.

NEW SYSTEM FOR MATERNITY REFERRALS FOR BOOKING WITH COMMUNITY MIDWIVES

In response to women and Community Midwives being unable to access the GP surgeries to complete a Maternity Booking Referral form we have set up an online system for women to inform the Community Midwives that they are pregnant. The email address will be checked regularly.

How does it work:

1. Women send an email to the designated email address. Birthafterthoughts.cav@wales.nhs.uk

2. They receive an automatic response with the referral form attached.

3. They complete the form online and return it to the same email address.

4. They will be contacted within a week by a Community Midwife who will then arrange a telephone booking appointment when they are 8-10 weeks pregnant.

This information is on the Cardiff and Vale UHB website and the Cardiff and Vale UHB Maternity Services Facebook page.
