Non NHS Fees.docxMany patients see their doctor as the embodiment of the NHS and all it provides. The National Health Service provides most healthcare to the majority of people, free of charge, but there are exceptions. It is important to understand that GPs are not employed by the NHS, they are self-employed.
The NHS covers the cost for NHS work but, for non-NHS work, there is a fee to cover GPs work and time.
Some examples of non-NHS services for which GPs can charge their NHS patients are: Accident/sickness insurance certificates; certain travel vaccinations; private medical insurance reports; satements of fact relating to general health; letter requested by, or on behalf of patients; holiday cancellation claim forms and referral for private care forms.
All fees that are charged for the non-NHS work are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales. All fees must be paid upfront before work is undertaken and we request you allow 14 days for completition.
If you have any questions or for more information regarding non-NHS work and fees please don't hesitate to speak to a memeber of our reception staff, who will be happy to assist you.
